The Misery of a Self Seeking Life

James 4:1-6

1. The fruit of pursuing carnal pleasure
a. It brings division and sin
b. It will always leave you wanting more
c. It produces and empty spiritual life
d. You become and enemy of God

2. When we pursue pleasure, God still pursues us
a. He chastises us to get our attention
b. He yearns for us
c. He abounds grace to us
d. He offers a way back to us

Escaping the Bondage of Bitter Envy

James 3:13-17

1. A wise man knows God is watching our hearts and actions. (vs 13)

2. Since bitter envy destroys, we must not try to conceal it from God. (vs. 14-16)

3. We must be willing to yield to the Lord to escape bitter envy.

1. We will be judged for what we say, especially teachers of the Word. (vs. 1)

2. We all sin with our mouths at times. (vs. 2)

3. Our words will direct much of our lives. (vs. 3-6)

4. The untamable tongue can do incredible damage. (vs. 3-10)

5. To produce good words, we must abide in the True vine. (vs. 11-12)
